Public Breastfeeding

Are you for it or against it? Me? I am totally against it. I find it inappropriate and awkward. Yes I understand it is natural and beautiful...blah blah blah. I disagree. I find it gross. Don't get me wrong I am going to breastfeed but I will not be doing it in public. I have hooter hiders and legs.  Meaning, I will be covering up and walking away. I feel that breastfeeding is a private time between you and your baby. It should not be shared with everyone. I am totally okay finding a private place, bathroom, or my car to breastfeed. I have asked people to remove themselves from publicly breastfeeding before. I will do it again.

For those of you who whip out your breast without covering I have a question...What are you thinking? That is your BOOB! You are showing everyone one of your most intimate parts to your body. If you are normally conservative then why are you whipping out your freaking boob?

For those of you who are kind enough to cover up please try to walk away or remove yourself from the center of attention. Example: you are breastfeeding at a restaurant. You cover up but you are positioned in the middle of the table. Move to a empty table close by or move your chair.

I'm sure there are many people offended by this but I think it is sick. If you get to have a strong opinion and insist on breastfeeding publicly then I am going to be opinionated and vocal about my thoughts of privacy and modesty.

  1. I prefer nursing in private. I do however have no qualms for feeding in public if it is done modestly and quietly so as not to disturb others. I also believe every nursing mother should be able to do the same. I do agree, NO exposed breasts please. I will not however nurse in the restroom - disgusting. If I am at a restaurant with my family I will trade places with Josh to be more discrete but I will not remove myself completely. Depending on the circumstances I will go to the car or other room in a home. I kindly ask the host/hostess first where they prefer I nurse before I start. We were at fireworks the other night with family. I had to nurse so I sat alone on a separate blanket covered up and got done as quickly as possible. Nothing gross about that in my book. There really was no private place to go and I would never nurse in the porta potty. I was also not about to walk all the way back to Grandma's house to do what I had to do.

  2. I was at Target when a woman started to breastfeed in the check out line. She pulled out naked boob! It was disturbing. Her baby wasn't crying or anything. It wasn't a live or die situation at all. She picked up her content baby and boom out came the boob. I was shocked!

  3. That is horrible! I would have said something too. A checkout line is ridiculous! "Hold on checkout girl while I pop out my boob before I swipe my credit card." Discretion PLEASE!
